TK Maxxidents: Grab these quick (before I do!)
Which fragrances I'd buy right now on the TK Maxx website…
Yes, yes, I know I said I’d post on Mondays, but time is of the essence with this one.
I always feel wistfully sad for the fragrances in TK Maxx stores when I shop in-person, often trapped in their heavy duty plastic security protectors and randomly arrayed. It’s a bit like visiting an animal shelter, where you want to take all of the poor darlings home, and feel heavy with the burden of knowing you can’t. But I feel less guilty, somehow, online. I can look at them more dispassionately when their little noses aren’t pressed against the bars of their cages. [Metaphorically speaking, obvs. I’m not mad, I promise. Come back, dear reader!]
Ahem. Anyway. I often find myself idly browsing TK Maxx’s website in the dangerous early hours, when I can’t sleep and all willpower fizzles out faster than a fag end in wine glass. Things fall into my basket. You know how it happens. Presents from present me to future me. It’s easily done. We’ve all been there. One minute you’re scrolling, and another - oops! It’s all Thank you for your order and the deed is done. A TK Maxxident, if you will.
So, in order to be a little more strategic, and - if I’m truly honest – to try and prevent MYSELF from buying them; I thought my browsing today should: 1) be done earlier in the evening, and 2) take the form of a guide for my Substack!
It’s a cunning plan.
Will my willpower win over? Only time will tell, dear reader. See if these are still in stock, and which ones YOU might fancy, before they all end up in my basket.*
[*Cannot see / think of that phrase without it being in the lovely Callum’s voice, now. Yep yep yep. 😅]
By the way, none of these are affiliate links. I’ve never done an affiliate link, in fact, but if one day I do, I’ll always tell you. For transparency, I have previously hosted an event for Home Sense – with the iconic Rylan, as it happens. [Apols if that link doesn’t work, it’s saved in my Events Highlights circle beneath my Instagram bio.] And yes, he really is that funny / lovely! Home Sense are the same business group. Part of that project also included an Instagram Story, and it was paid for. But this is completely separate, not paid for or sponsored in any way. Hope that’s clear!
Ok then. Enough waffling, more wafting…
Miller Harris Wander (Through the Parks) 100ml eau de parfum £39.99 (RRP £135)
This was by far my favourite of three ‘foraging’ fragrances that came out a few years ago from Miller Harris. I was lucky enough to go to the extraordinary press launch, where flower sculptures with scent pods were suspended from the ceiling, and the perfumers spoke of the inspirational foraging trips they’d gone on during working on their compositions.
Wander is by Matthieu Nardin (who’s created a number of my favourite MH scents) and it’s a glorious wash of green, full of snapped stalks, tall grasses, crumpled leaves, new shoots and a piquant freshness from blackcurrant. Beneath all the nettles and brambles there’s a wonderfully sheer earthiness. It feels wild, and is wildly beautiful to wear!
Miller Harris Violet Ida 100ml eau de parfum £39.99 (RRP £135)
Another favourite - this is full of vintage vibes, it’s all classic lipstick and powder compacts, rouged cheeks and violet-tinted bouffant hair. But all worn with a pencil skirt, low-cut blouse and a cheeky wiggle. Think: glamorous dressing table filled with heavy glass pots, feather puffs, piles of silk ribbons, strings of pearls, a discarded silk dressing gown nonchalantly draped over a chaise lounge. Déshabillé boudoir personified.
Forte Forte x Acqua di Parma 3 x 12ml £34.99 (RRP £79)
This set includes three travel-size sprays of Arancia Di Capri, Fico Di Amalfi, and Mirto Di Panarea. If you want THE best reviews of ADP fragrances, you need to head to… my fragrant pal Alice du Parcq (my fave ADP!) Basically, there’s nothing not to like here - or in any of their fragrances, really. They are quenching, cooling, utterly classy, completely timeless. Therefore, a great gifting idea if you’re already stashing away stocking fillers or have some loved-one’s birthdays coming up. The perfect size to stash in your hand luggage for holidays, too.
Jill Sander Sun eau de toilette & Body Shampoo Set 2 x 75ml £19.99 (RRP £38)
I’m going to reference Alice again, *and* another fragrant pal of mine, Sali Hughes, here, because they both got me into loving Sun. Sali references the scent in her guest appearance on Alice’s brilliant Desert Island Spritz series on Instagram, so you can hear them both talking about it.
It’s not at all expensive full price, but you can’t always find the body wash easily in the U.K. for some reason, so this is a great chance to try it. And another perfect holiday bag stashing size! Do watch Sali & Alice chatting about it on the video for a full description, but basically put it smells like freshly laundered linen + holiday skin. Easy, breezy, instantly happy-making. It doesn’t last very long on my skin, but I enjoy the pleasure of re-applying on a hot day, and at this price don’t mind doing it often.
Goutal Le Chevrefeuille 100ml eau de toilette £44.99 (RRP £155)
Oh this smells SO French. It’s a beautifully uncomplicated summer scent to wear if you’ve just inherited a chateau and want to waft about in flower meadows in a white dress and straw hat. And really, who doesn’t? You’ve picked armfuls of blooms, placed them in antique water pitchers on windowsills, and then go for a cooling shower to escape the heat of the day. Lying in the bedroom, the open shutters gently dapple patches of sunlight on clean skin, drifts of honeysuckle float on a breeze from the garden below, as you listen to bees buzzing, sip ice cold homemade lemonade and sigh, blissfully.
[God help me, I swear my finger’s hovering above that Add to Basket button. Save me!]
Love Suzy x
I snapped up the Violet Ida and now want a back up bottle! My (very) male partner wears it too and it's becoming a bit competitive!
Thanks Suzy! Listened to the most recent Outspoken Beauty last night and was on the hunt for Jil Sander Sun!
